Subject to a wide range of work, at BCD you don't get pigeonholed into being taught one or two things that you might specialise in designing. Instead, you are often provided with many opportunities to learn on a range of projects (i.e. a small residential fit out, and an industrial shed).
I have been given the opportunity to work on a couple of full projects, which has been a really valuable way to develop my structural knowledge. It allows me to apply and understand key principles in a more holistic way. In addition to this, I am often assigned smaller tasks involving alterations to existing schools and residential buildings, which has been very useful in understanding how existing structures behave and are put together. Looking ahead, I would like to gain more experience in steel design and modelling to further broaden my skill set.
