The firm offers "lunch and learns" which provide an opportunity for solicitors and above to collect CPD hours. As a grad, there are plenty of opportunities to ask for work (with variety because of the rotations) and get genuine feedback which will help you improve for the next time. The tasks can range from proofreading to drafting to research and more. Senior staff are always happy to talk you through the work and ask questions of you that will not just improve the work itself but improve the service you personally deliver to clients.
Seniors provide a lot of development and feedback, often in relation to specific tasks. Most of the time, graduates are given the opportunity to amend their work after receiving feedback and tracked changes, so that we learn and understand what to do differently next time. Seniors will often make sure that there is continuity of work, i.e. keeping graduates CC'd into email chains so that we can keep track of developments, even if we're not actively performing work on the file. There is an emphasis on making sure that graduates get a variety of work from different practice areas. There is a formal graduate program involving 3-month rotations through the Commercial, Litigation, and Employment teams.
Everyone in the team is really willing to take the time to explain things and map out what they expect of you / teach you new things
The formal training was very well done, involving a week of induction when my cohort started, then a national week-long induction with all of the graduates once we had been in our roles for a couple of months. This gap was a great amount of time to get up to speed and the second induction was great with the added context and doubled as a timely refresher. The informal training has been great and I can honestly say that I have learned something new every day just from asking questions of colleagues. Legal practice requires a much broader skillset than is developed at university and I've been picking up everything from the practical side of filing documents to the correct way to sign off an email.
the training programmes offered are good and technical. I have opportunities for IT trainings often and can always book a one-on-one with someone in the IT team. We get to attend lunch and learns often, and the partners take their time to ensure you are learning and picking up as you go.
