Progressing naturally through Frequency's graduate programme.
I feel as though there is career progression for sure but staying motivated and wanting to go above and beyond in the gradate role is hard to maintain. Because everything is tiered and small pay increases are guaranteed over the 2 and a half years it is difficult to stat motivated as no matter if you are the top performing grad or bottom performing, the pay packet remains the same which is frustrating. If there was a small performance related aspect of pay it would make it easier to stay motivated and keep trying to go above and beyond.
Frequency provides support and structured growth for Graduates through 'Personal Development Plans' and regular check-ins with your manager. There is a lot of opportunity for promotion here. The first 2.5 years are a structured 'Graduate Programme' with flat pay increases.
Frequency has a rather comprehensive list of what graduates should be competent at by the end of their programme which is great for steering the development process and working towards a promotion to associate. The grad forums are a great way to pick up some soft-skills or learn things that cannot be instructed or picked up through 'doing'. The learn-as-you-go method is great, and I definitely learn the most when I'm put in the driver's seat for a task I haven't encountered before. Overall, the skills learnt during the Frequency grad programme seem valuable for any industry or role, not just project management. The variety of service lines, types of projects, and different clients make for great learning opportunities and enable us to determine where our capabilities and interests lie. Frequency My one concern, arising from entering into the grad programme immediately after graduating from university, is that I lack exposure to some fundamental construction work types, such as engineering/design and construction on site. I suppose I'd have the same opinion if I'd immediately gone into a design role, always wondering what it is a PM actually does.
Frequency have a clear progression through roles at the company, starting at Graduate. The expectations are clear for each role and having regular catchups with my seniors allows consistent feedback and learning to progress toward the next role. The various service lines allow for a taste of the different sectors of work Frequency do, and allow you to find a preferred sector of work.
