Very structured, move with cohort regardless of performance
I am a level 1 policy advisor, so the general career progression is to eventually move to a senior policy advisor (level 2), and then principal policy advisor (level 3). it normally takes a couple to a few years to move up a position, but the pathway seems quite standard. however, as i am part of a cohort of graduates, i think it may be a bit more difficult to get promoted earlier as it is hard to promote some people and not others, meaning you may be promoted faster by moving to another agency or ministry. nevertheless, i am still reasonably satisfied with the career progression opportunities as there are other possibilities to try out different roles and experiences.
It takes a while to get promoted as this requires extensive technical knowledge and experience, but you are supported well to develop!
