The tasks tend to involve a mixture of administrative tasks, and design related tasks. However, the design related tasks are limited to the graduate programme graduate project.
Still learning and developing, building skillset, minor work so far but there is bigger and more significant work coming
The role and tasks varies depending on the team that I'm currently with. The structure team focus on the bridge and tunnels maintenance design. Civil team had formation design, geotechnical design, slope and retaining wall maintenance, rail corridor drainage design, culvert maintenance design. Track team with technical support for each region, track design and inspection maintenance.
Day-to-day tasks are largely meaningful and interesting, with real impact on the teams you are working in. Consistently getting new things to do and learn. Some less interesting tasks are given to grads but mostly the work I do is really cool.
I generally work on sustainable construction practices. For example, I am working on a ballast recycling project. I have also recently started researching options for replacing gas boilers in the Hutt workshop. As a rotational graduate programme, day-to-day tasks change a lot.
