Relevant trainings will be arranged depending on the role. For example, tunnel training before you are allowed to go into any tunnel, and requires to be renewed on a annual bases. Other than these, there's also career development events such as Graduate Development Weeks and technical events of lessons learn from other projects held by senior engineers. The skills I've picked up helped me alot for my own growth, such as tunnel, bridge, culvert, slope, retaining wall and track inspections. The ability of problem solving, cooperation between different parties, etc.
Lots of opportunities to do courses and gain competencies in a range of different areas relevant to the team your in. Informal training through learning from people happens pretty much every day, everyone is happy to explain things and answer questions. Performance is reviewed every 6 months.
We have graduate development days. Recently, the business funded our trip out on a camp where we completed team building exercises and were lectured by senior leader in KiwiRail. We also had a development day in Wellington where we caught the train from Auckland to Wellington and the ferry over to Picton.
