So basically, the graduate program is a two-year training program where employees rotate through different teams. We also have business trips to operational sites as part of the program.
As I didn't had any job description to follow to start with, it was hard to understand what I should be doing. But gradually my supervisor gave me training to take jobs. I have 1:1 meeting with my supervisor fortnightly to discuss on my work. Together with opportunities to improve technical skills, non-technical skills are also given.
KiwiRail has an online training portal, but this is quite surface level. On-the-job training is typically the most effective method, but getting qualified people and recourse is difficult to obtain.
There is constant development and training offered both in soft-skills, hard-skills, management and even physical. There is also constant coaching and mentoring from managers and project sponsors as well as everyday staff in the office.
