Time in band is relatively straightforward for the first three or so years. They severely underestimate the time it takes until your first posting as there is a significant backlog of people waiting to go out. And you can't get a promotion until that happens so you're essentially stuck for years.
Its going to be a long path to rise in the ranks. But that is just the inherent nature of this ministry
