Every part of the year is very vastly different. During harvest I find myself either driving tractors to move the pickers bins, supervising them to ensure work ethic is being maintained to heading into winter pruning, spraying, fixing irrigation and the odd time of cleaning the smoko room (because males are messy). I find one day is never the same as the next and that is the variety I absolutely love with the orchards.
My role can be very busy especially during harvest with a lot of staff being added , the responsibility on my role is extremely high , with health and safety being number one issue, also insure work is being conducted efficiently.
Managing the H&S system and developing Wellbeing culture
As an orchard foreman, my role is to delegate jobs to my staff members and train them up on the different tasks in the orchard. I also organise and run the chemical application process and documentation of applied chemicals.
I oversee day - to- day operations on orchard and see different tasks to completion, depending on what the manager wants done. I try to keep a honest, respectful and happy culture in the workplace. With an open door policy to all. Depending on the time of the year, will depend on what type of work will take centre stage. Harvest over Summer/Autumn - Pruning over Autumn/Winter - Spraying over Winter/Spring - Thinning /Spraying over Spring/Summer. Flexibly is needed at all times, as plans change and you need the ability to move with them.
