My day-to-day work varies quite a bit. I have set responsibilities and tasks that I am expected to complete, but there are also plenty of opportunities to jump in and support different projects the wider teams are working on. There is usually a lot happening, and extra support is genuinely appreciated. I have also had opportunities to take ownership of projects and responsibilities beyond my core role, which has given me the freedom to explore areas I enjoy and develop my skill set in different directions. There is also a lot of scope to identify areas that could be improved or optimised, and the team is generally very open to new ideas and gives you the independence to approach things in your own way. I really value that balance between having clear responsibilities while still having the freedom to learn, contribute and grow.
In my current role, I do a mix of administrative tasks and longer term projects for my manager. I would say my work is generally meaningful - and the busywork or admin provides a foundation for a more granular understanding of buying, retail and the category I work in.
Mainly admin tasks
Mostly supplier engagement, occasional report creation and analysis and occasional product management, varied and interesting.
It's difficult to fault my mentor for this score, but as an intern without a guaranteed future beyond the internship, my list of "tasks" is relatively small because why would i be shown how to do a task if i won't be here to do it in 2 months. I often have to ask for more work to do, which can be awkward because i know everyone is busy (including my mentor). I'm not sure other interns, but i think we would all benefit if there was a roadmap provided to our mentors, so they know how to keep you occupied and learning throughout the internships.
