During my first year of joining Watercare, I had the opportunity to complete a large range of practical training at Watercare's training campus, as well as a number of personal development workshops. I was also assigned a mentor and have had bi-annual formal performance reviews. There is various formal training scheduled for the coming year, including a project management course and technical writing course.
Awesome to get exposure to trainings such as Confined Space Entry and Breathing Apparatus. Very grateful to have been through a Māori leadership programme in my time at Watercare also.
There are many opportunities for growth and training. For example I was engaged in a speech course, which was very transformative and engaging. I have been involved in personal development programmes, and had the opportunity to attend and speak at a conference. Every 6 months we are engaged in a performance review, which is very helpful in identifying strengths and areas where I can improve.
There have been plenty of training opportunities available to everyone, not just grads. These sessions have helped me better understand my own working style and how it fits with others. They’ve also provided lifelong skills that will benefit me throughout my career while allowing me to connect with other grads and people across Watercare
Training programs that I've taken part in include: 'Working at Heights' , 'Confined Space' , 'First Aid' , 'Permit Issuer', 'Toastmasters' . These trainings have helped me to grow in knowledge and also in confidence. Six-monthly performance reviews are also available that are useful for getting constructive feedback to aid in your development.
