There were times when employees were expected to report to multiple members of management simultaneously, which could create confusion around priorities, communication, and accountability. Following my use of protected leave, I was placed on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP), which created the impression that using benefits intended to protect employees during difficult circumstances could negatively affect one’s standing within the company.
