Great management and culture with a learning expectation Great management, work-life balance, and company culture.
There is no planning for co-ops. You are dropped into the office and your group manager assigns you to whatever project needs a body, even if it involves long-term travel to another state. Just signed a lease to work here? Too bad, you'll never use it. Thousands of your dollars down the drain because they couldn't plan a week ahead. I was in the office for a few days before getting shipped out. The expensing system is handled by one person for the entire company. She usually takes 2-3 weeks to process expenses, and if she's ever delayed or goes on vacation you'll be floating thousands of dollars on your personal credit card and potentially accruing interest. During my assignment she went on vacation and I accumulated around $9,000 in unprocessed expenses (maxed out my credit card). I was eventually forced off-site because I couldn't pay for my hotel. My supervisors were either apathetic or powerless, with one going so far as offering to Venmo me his own cash to cover company expenses. That was the backup plan. The actual work is busywork. There are no real demands on you, no plans to develop your skills, no expectations beyond showing up. You're given something to do, you do it for a few months, and you leave. My work consisted of changing ModBus IDs by hand for several hundred temperature sensors. That was the job. After my field assignment "ended" (forced out, remember?) I was brought back to the office with no new work, no reassignment, and no check-ins. Nobody noticed for over a month. My group manager had 17+ direct reports and checked in roughly once a month. When I eventually left, he asked if I'd had my exit meeting, not realizing he was the one supposed to schedule it. The only real thing I got out of this was the money.
