I am an undergraduate consultant, so I help assist any projects that are available. I try to get exposure to many different types of projects. The work I carry out can vary significantly; from research and report writing to data analysis and modelling. The projects that I contribute to have meaningful real-world outcomes.
Tasks are almost always meaningful and it feels that my skills learned in University have been useful. day to day tasks include modelling, geospatial analysis, mapping and design.
As a graduate engineer, I've been involved in a mix of flood studies, stormwater servicing plans, water quality modelling, and hydrological and hydraulic modelling. I like the diversity of the work I do, and the opportunity to learn many different things. I also expected a s graduate that I would be given a lot of iterative jobs that people don't like as much e.g. making 100s of maps and editing spreadsheets, however when understood in the context of the whole project, it still feels like meaningful work.
My day-to-day tasks involve helping out on a range of consulting projects. I move between different projects depending on what’s needed and where I can contribute. If I show interest in a particular area, the managers are really supportive and will try to find work that fits, which gives me a great chance to explore different types of projects and build my experience.
