In my current role as a graduate in the construction team, I am given substantial autonomy over my work and was given client-facing opportunities early on. I often assist by drafting contracts, updating contracts, attending meetings with clients and drafting emails to clients.
My role has been interesting on a day-to-day basis. In my corporate rotation, no one day was the same. My partner got me involved in a wide range of discrete tasks that would help the matters we were working on as a team. As for my construction rotation, working in more of a back-end team has allowed me to learn lots about arbitration processes. I have already been exposed to a diverse range of tasks as a graduate lawyer.
The tasks I have completed in my rotations are varied but they have all been meaningful and have contributed in some way to the progression of matters. I have not felt like I have been given "busy work" or assigned too many "grunt tasks" designed for grads.
Preparation of first draft of agreements (e.g., share purchase agreement), conduct of buy-side due diligence on acquisition target, drafting of client advise on legal and regulatory questions, preparation of evidence and drafting of affidavits.
