Training is mostly hands-on and driven by the nature of the work in the given practice area. We do have some mandatory training to be completed online, but this is minimal. When you join the firm, you usually are involved in a 3 day induction program, which introduces you to the firm, its values and what to expect in your role. Feedback for graduates occurs in a mid-rotation catch up with your supervisor, as well as at the end of your rotation. Generally, feedback can also be given throughout the rotation on an ad hoc basis. Each graduate also has a buddy and a coach to help them settle into the team. There is lots of support available.
I find the informal training at Baker McKenzie better than the formal training. The learning opportunities I am received by discussing questions with partners and supervisors have been valuable to my development. There are also sessions which are run, but they can be a bit dry and feel a bit irrelevant depending on what team we are in.
There are excellent training and development opportunities for juniors. We have PLT covered by the firm and in addition to intensive training days at the start of our graduate program, we have a 2 day junior lawyer accelerator program in Sydney and 'cornerstone' sessions throughout to assist in our development
Comprehensive graduate training; the in-practice group training could be expended in some of the practice groups whereas other practice groups are more consistent.
