I think as part of the program, the opportunities to learn are great - if you are willing to go out of your way to seek them. I think if you wait for opportunities to come to you, you will be disappointed. I think it's good that there is a lot of support to develop "soft skills" as well as the technical skills required for a given discipline.
Poor training by the "mentor" that I was assigned to. After working under him for the first week, he told me that he was doing a "shit job" training me. At the time, I brushed it off thinking he was joking, but in retrospect this was true. He left me off key meetings, cold shouldered and excluded me in social setting and failed to involve me in tasks that are part of my logbook requirements after stating he would. Line leader was not aware of his responsibilities under the program that I am participating in. KPIs were not assigned to me until months into the program. Discipline champion ignores messages and did not provide Graduate Logbook until halfway through the first rotation. Line leader did not contact me to onboard me to the team after I finished my induction week. I left a message on his machine and when he got back to me, he told me that he thought I started next week. Extremely poor onboarding and absentee support.
Formal training with the graduate program is very good. a lot of opportunities within HSS for internal training also. but support with on the job training is lacking in Environmental department
