There is a lot of opportunities to move into different departments/roles. However I have heard to move up from associate engineer to higher can take some time as some one has to leave in the role above. Some grads will roll of into mid level roles though, so they are set up better to progress. However the role you roll off into is really dependent on the team/roles available at the time.
You are offered a permanent position at the end of the graduate program. Most people roll off into associate roles, although some roll off into mid-level roles. I know of at least one person who rolled off to a senior role, but that was an exceptional case. In general I would say it's similar to most corporate jobs. There is definitely a focus on helping people to move up the ladder and fulfil their aspirations though.
Grads are permanent employees the day they start the grad program. They have 4 rotations lasting 2 yrs. By 3rd rotation they start to reach out or finalise the team they want to roll-off full time into. Before you secure one, you technically is still a permanent employee, but if you're not active in finding yourself the role, you may be allocated a role that is not that interesting to your career prospects. Outside of that, there is generally more opportunities for young professionals starting their first career here.
Coles Group is a large retail front organisation. You can progress to higher roles if you have the determination and right skill sets. Although rapid progression is not the case, it depends on role availability as well.
