I spend a lot of time on site as a graduate which is part of my role as a graduate engineer. And there is a fair amount of rotation of remote work between all field engineers, so no one individual feels that they are being under the pump.
I work the hours that I am required to. That suits me and this has never been a point of conflict with my employer. The requirements of the job shifts between projects.
I am always consulted about whether I am available for remote work and whether it fits with my personal commitments. After extended periods of working away from home, I am encouraged to take TIL, which helps maintain a healthy work-life balance and reduces the risk of burnout.
Starting as a graduate it is expected that you work a majority of your 40 hours doing fieldwork which encompasses a variety of tasks. Often these field days may be longer than your standard 8 hours. You may work in remote places for 10+ hours; however, this time is reimbursed either through additional pay or time in lieu.
