I had a buddy to begin with to help me when I had lots of questions. It is definitely overwhelming starting at PMI as there is a lot to get to understand about the industry and how we function. I think most of my skills have come from being given tasks to complete on my own that have pushed my understanding. My team often gives me feedback and advice and I've learned when I need to ask for help and when I need to figure stuff out on my own. People were patient with me when teaching me how to use programs. I would say that Adam started helping the grads further their excel skills, but when he got too busy these lessons stopped. I know I would benefit from an excel course because while I did a subject on it at uni, it's been a few years since I've used the more complicated formulars.
Development opportunities are readily available everywhere, it's up to you to take it or not. Onboarding was slightly a problem for me as there weren't proper onboarding in specific departments I moved into.
Skills I've learnt : demand planning , Inventory Planning , Communication skills , managing stakeholders and prioritization
My direct supervisors have all helped train me up with handovers to ensure I am prepared for all the tasks I may encounter. There is also quite a thorough onboarding process to ensure all new starters are comfortable with understanding the company and the industry. I received great help with my tasks when I first started, and my team was sure to help ease me into new roles and responsibilities. We also get ongoing feedback as part of our career development, and you are also welcome to seek feedback from others as well. I have found that everyone, even the senior management team are always willing to answer questions and assist in your personal and professional development.
