The formal training and development offered by Lockheed Martin are very good. The starter modules and courses on online programs are informative, and there are heaps of additional resources you can use to learn a large variety of topics. In the early stages of my internship I was given lots of time to learn and use these resources, a memorable course I did was on aerospace hypersonic technology which was lectured by members of the skunkworks team. The graduate program sessions are fun and insightful but I do wish there were more graduate program sessions. I do believe more effort can be made to ensure informal training, development and mentorship is done to help you learn the skills needed specific to your job.

I think there needs to be more training opportunities throughout the graduate program. I feel I did not have many exciting opportunities and would love the opportunity to travel to our other sites across Australia to gain experience and knowledge about the other projects we work on. I know other Defence primes do this with their grads/interns, so would have loved if more of these opportunities could be made available to us.

Most learning is self-managed, and especially in my role in the lab, I'm expected to figure stuff out myself fairly often. There is a training budget I can make use of, but there's not much time available for it, and you need to request it yourself.
