It seems that lateral movement is more frequent in the public service.
There are lots of opportunities to move up where I work, with new roles coming up pretty regularly. My manager is really supportive and always encourages me to apply for higher positions. There’s also a big focus on upskilling, with plenty of chances to learn new things and build my experience. I feel like the organisation genuinely wants to help you grow and reach your goals. There are opportunities to shadow others, try different types of work, and build towards your future career. Overall, I feel really supported in working towards the role I want.
At the end of the grad program, you are offered a job within the NSW Government. This will either be at grade you entered the grad program in or a higher grade. There is also always opportunity to transfer internally to other departments and these are often advertised internally.
