My role as an Environmental Scientist is to complete the objectives as part of our Contaminated Land reports. This is split into two parts: a field work component and an office component. in a field work component, I work on-site in the field completing environmental assessments. In the office, I work as an assistant to the project manager of the job to collate our environmental findings into a report
I am more office based now, so do a lot of report writing after we have done the field work and received the lab reports and results. I work on projects such as groundwater monitoring events which are required under the EPA, detailed site investigations including soil, groundwater and vapour assessments to help determine the possible risk to people on-site and preliminary site investigations to see if any further work is required to determine the risk level of contaminants on-site prior to development etc. These are just to name a few, but it is extremely rewarding work to see a report come together and to find conclusions and recommendations for our clients. As a graduate, it was my role to go out and collect the samples and data in the field to help write these reports. It was very important and meaningful work that was the basis of what we as contaminated land consultant do, so it was important to me that I did a good job and got the data that we needed to help our clients get the most information possible. This sometimes involved groundwater monitoring, test pitting, drilling boreholes, installing wells, collecting vapour samples and surface water sampling to name a few things we did in the field.
Very Meaningful work, making the world a cleaner/safer place for both people and the environment.
Senversa prioritises interesting and meaningful as part of its business development objectives, which filters down to employees of all levels. It means that graduates often get to travel all of WA to a wide variety of different sites and see things that not many people get to see and be involved in. Some of the places that I have visited for field work includes Collie, Exmouth, Karratha, Wagin and Newman, all with different objectives and types of work to assist clients in meeting their environmental goals. Office based tasks vary from reporting on background environmental information, completing post fieldwork tasks, working on appendices, tables and figures and QAQC tasks which provides a lot of variety of things to work on.
