Managers are always accessible. My manager has always been there when I needed her for advice or anything. In terms of whether they make good mentors, I think that it is harder to gain 100% out of the mentorship when they are also very focused on managing the team (especially in enviro). I mostly am the one to initiate one on one's with my manager/mentor when I need advice or if I'm struggling to understand my task. My manager has been extremely helpful and encouraging/motivating towards me and my role however taking away from the mentorship side.
